Leonardo DiCaprio – An expedition team with @tropicalherping recently rediscovered two cri @leonardodicaprio

An expedition team with @tropicalherping recently rediscovered two critically endangered lizards which scientists feared were extinct. The Climbing Whorltail Iguana hadn’t been seen since 1899 and the Orcés Blue Whiptail hadn’t been seen since 1959.

Both were found in unexpected, but precarious habitats that are being heavily deforested for agriculture. The team is now working with @fundacion.jocotoco and other partners to build a conservation breeding program for the Orcés Blue Whiptail, which are being cared for at Bioparque AMARU. Juvenile lizards will eventually move to the Yungilla Reserve where they will be rewilded.

The team hopes to build a project for the Climbing Whorltail Iguana and locate more of the lizards.
