An update from @AmazonFrontlines on the fight for #JusticeInTheAmazon. After 4 months of trial, an Ecuadorian judge rejected Indigenous people’s lawsuit against the government and the oil companies responsible for a massive oil spill in the region.
The judge dismissed the case, stating that it was the incorrect legal venue, which denies that affected communities’ rights were violated. Indigenous and human rights organizations are denouncing the judge’s decision, which fails to protect the rights of Indigenous peoples and nature. The ruling leaves 27,000 Indigenous peoples without access to clean water and food, and without any protection from the imminent threat of another disastrous oil spill.
Indigenous plaintiffs will appeal the judge’s decision and ramp up their fight to shutdown Ecuador’s major pipelines until justice is served. Join the fight to #StopAmazonExtraction & protect Mother Earth at amazonfrontlines.org/Amazon-extraction (link in bio)
